Private Event FAQ


Do you charge a booking fee?
No. Hard to Explain does not charge a booking fee. Private events only require a minimum spend per requested time slot.

What are the minimum spend requirements?
Weekdays require a $700 per hour minimum spend, and weekends require an $800 per hour minimum spend.

What time slots are available for private parties?
Weekday event times are flexible.
Weekend time slots are 5–7 PM, 5–8 PM, 9–12 PM, and 10–12 PM.
Weekend parties may also start before 5 PM upon request.

How many guests can the bar accommodate?
Hard to Explain can host up to 40 guests, making it perfect for intimate private parties and celebrations.

What types of events can I host at Hard to Explain?
Guests often host birthday parties, company gatherings, cocktail receptions, and group celebrations at our East Village cocktail bar.

Can we bring our own food or cake?
Yes. You’re welcome to bring outside food or cake. Please bring disposable utensils and plates if needed. Unfortunately, we do not have storage space for cakes.

Can we play our own music or playlist?
Yes. You are welcome to play your own playlist during your event.
